FDA warning letters: common questions
What is an FDA warning letter?
FDA says it sends one when it identifies what it believes are significant violations. The company gets the chance to correct them or to answer with its own reasoning. It is not a court ruling. If FDA later verifies the corrections, it may issue a close-out letter.
Has FDA warned GLP-1 sellers?
Yes. FDA's list holds 162 warning letters since 2024 that name semaglutide, tirzepatide, retatrutide, liraglutide or GLP-1s. 19 of the sellers listed on GLPcompare have received one.
Does a warning letter mean a seller is unsafe?
A letter does not say that by itself. Many of the letters to online sellers cite what their websites claim, and others cite selling unapproved drugs. Read the letter itself: each one here links to FDA's copy.
